So.. last night, around midnight, our street in from of my home was filled with a few minutes of big excitement and activity and not the good kind- but the little bit funny in hindsight- kind.!
I was in my room watching some late night tv when I became aware of all grades of drama from outside.. the worst kind of drama.. the Benny the Dog kind of drama that is not easily quelled. I was also aware of some other voices.. one which seemed to be the voice of my son, Dustin, raging and cussing.. which made me realize that my son has added some very colorful language to his vocabulary. Anyway.. I wanted to help and as James was sleeping peacefully, i slipped on my shoes and ran outside wearing only my nightgown to see what was going on. SO... there they were.. the 3 of them.. some stranger with a backpack who had been walking down the road, Dustin who was more than a little frustrated, and Benny the dreaded chi-weenie who was bobbing, weaving and snapping randomly and basically having the time of his life. Benny had somehow escaped the fence and was putting a stop to strangers with back packs walking up and down the street... also know in dog circles as HIS street! He is a very fast dog and as it was nearly pitch black it was hard to keep up with his bobbing and weaving and other highly original moves. That bad dog was intent on teaching this dude a lesson - not to mention he was not having his girlfriend's (Loretta the Pitt Bull) who was napping inside, peace disturbed by some random walker who was obviously here to rob us. Then.. while Benny ran, bobbing and weaving, barking and growling, the walker stood still so we could have a better chance at catching the bad little beast, a car came down and stopped to see but not add to, all the drama. So... now we have a car with headlights, which was helpful, illuminating a stock still man with a backpack, a running man who forgot decent language, an old lady with a nightgown and tennis shoes trying to catch worlds worst dog who, again, was having the time of his life. At some point, I realized my chest was hurting pretty much so I gave up the chase and headed back into house. Benny saw that and decided treats might be coming forthwith so he proudly surrendered to Dusty who he was certain he had saved from certain death by the now escaping backpacker and allowed himself, proud and victorious in battle, into house. The car moved on, the walker moved on, I very nearly moved on.. and so.. that happened. Life at the Moores. Sigh, it happened.
